HVO100
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil
Fill up with environmentally friendly and high-performance fuel with the AUSTROCARD
HVO100, short for "Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil," is a renewable diesel made from 100% sustainable raw materials such as waste oils, used cooking oil, and fats from waste materials. During production, the material undergoes a hydrogenation process in which hydrogen is used to remove oxygen from the fatty acids and convert them into long-chain paraffins. The result is a hydrocarbon-rich fuel that is chemically almost identical to conventional diesel.
Important for drivers: The new fuel is generally safe to use in any diesel car, but (for warranty reasons) should only be used if the vehicle is approved for it by the manufacturer – identifiable by a sticker with the "XTL" symbol on the fuel cap. If this label is missing, consult the owner's manual or contact your dealer.
Environmental benefits and efficiency
HVO100 offers significant environmental advantages over fossil diesel. By using renewable feedstocks, greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂eq) can be reduced by up to 90% over the fuel's entire life cycle. The fuel burns cleaner, reducing the emission of pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons, thereby improving air quality. Furthermore, HVO100 contains no aromatics or sulfur, resulting in cleaner combustion and lower maintenance costs.
High performance and versatility
Its chemical structure is similar to that of fossil diesel, making it a drop-in fuel. HVO100 has excellent storage properties, is stable and resistant to oxidation, and is suitable even for extreme weather conditions due to its high cetane number and good cold-start properties.
Differences to conventional diesel
Unlike conventional diesel, HVO100 contains no aromatics, making it virtually odorless and less harmful to the environment. It has a higher cetane number, enabling cleaner combustion and better cold-start performance.
Manufacturing and raw materials
Two processes are used to produce HVO100: the hydrogenation of vegetable oils in special plants or its co-processing with mineral oil in refineries. The raw materials used come exclusively from renewable sources, including waste and residues, without the use of land used for food production.
HVO100 – The future of sustainable diesel
As a diesel replacement made from 100% renewable raw materials, HVO100 offers an immediately available solution for reducing CO₂ emissions. It is a fuel that makes both ecological and economic sense and can be used directly in all existing diesel vehicles to make an active contribution to climate protection.
At AUSTROCARD, we are continuously working to expand our services and offer our customers the best and most sustainable solutions.
